Boston College is set to have its third losing season over the four-year tenure of Earl Grant. Still, the Golden Eagles will reportedly have him back for a fifth season next year.

Per Jon Rothstein this morning on Twitter, Grant will remain the head coach at Boston College. That’s according to Blake James, the athletic director in Chestnut Hill.

“Boston College AD Blake James tells me that Earl Grant will return as head coach next season,” Rothstein tweeted on Friday. So far, Rothstein is the only to report the news.

Grant has been with Boston College since 2021-2022 and, in that time, has posted a record of 61-71 (.462), including 27-52 (.342) against the ACC. Boston College has not finished in the Top 10 in the league in that time and has not made the NCAA Tournament as the Golden Eagles haven’t earned a berth into the field since 2009.

Boston College was coming off of its best finish under Grant last year at 20-16 overall and their second-best finish in the conference under him at 8-12. However, they’ve followed that up with another losing record at 12-18 (4-15) going into this weekend’s season finale at Pittsburgh.

Regardless of the outcome, though, that will be the final game of the season for BC. That’s with the new setup of the ACC Tournament where the final three teams in the standings do not qualify, with that group including the Golden Eagles along with NC State and Miami.

Prior to being at Boston College, Grant spent seven seasons at the College of Charleston. He was 127-89 (.588) with the Cougars, including 68-50 (.576 in the CAA, as Grant was CAA Coach of the Year in ’16-’17 before, after winning the league’s regular season and conference tournament titles, leading them to the NCAA Tournament in ’17-’18.

The Golden Eagles have not had a lot of success to this point with Grant. He’s going to get another season, though, to see if he can get things turned around at Boston College.

Boston College has no plans to make a change at head coach for women’s basketball, a source tells On3’s Talia Goodman. This season, Boston College finished with an overall record of 15-16, including a 6-12 mark in conference play.

Joanna Bernabei-McNamee has been at the helm of the program since 2018 and has guided her team to the postseason once during her tenure. In 2022, the Eagles secured a spot in the WNIT and reached the Third Round.
