Thomas Castellanos injury update: Boston College QB's status revealed for Virginia game
After a one-game absence, Thomas Castellanos will reportedly be back this weekend for Boston College.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel shared the latest on the Eagles’ quarterback in a tweet on Thursday. After returning to the field this week, Castellanos will start in their second conference game against Virginia on Saturday.
“Sources: Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos will start this week at Virginia after missing the game against Western Kentucky last week with an undisclosed injury,” Thamel wrote. “He’s been practicing this week and will return to his starting role for Boston College (4-1).”
The issue that Castellanos came out of the win over Michigan State with and that caused him to miss their last game against the Hilltoppers was never revealed.
Grayson James started in his place in his first action for the team after transferring in from FIU. In the one-point win over WKU, James went 19-32 (59.4%) for 168 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also rushed for another score. Both touchdowns came in the fourth quarter with them down by 13 to get them the close-call of a victory.

Castellanos has again been one of the better overall quarterbacks in the country through his four appearances this fall. He is 45-70 (64.3%) when passing for a career-high completion rate. Those have led to 729 yards, 10 touchdowns, and a pair of interceptions from him. He has also rushed for a touchdown although his running numbers are currently down from last season when he was one of the top dual-threat players in the nation as well as in program and conference history.
Still, Boston College is 3-1 in his four starts and is now at 4-1 after their latest victory. That has them in position to make their second consecutive bowl appearance ahead of their seven remaining games within conference play, including their first under their new head coach in Bill O’Brien.
The Eagles can now feel better about getting that fifth win with this update on Castellanos’ status for Saturday.
