Missouri transfer QB Drew Pyne commits to Bowling Green

Former Missouri, Notre Dame and Arizona State quarterback Drew Pyne has found a new home via the NCAA Transfer Portal. He’s headed to Bowling Green with his remaining eligibility after redshirting during his lone season with the Sun Devils in 2023, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
“NEWS: Former Missouri quarterback Drew Pyne is transferring to Bowling Green, he told ESPN,” Thamel reported. “Pyne started his career and Notre Dame (2020-22), transferred to Arizona State (2023) before playing at Missouri last year. He’s 9-3 overall as a starter and has two years of eligibility.”
Pyne entered the transfer portal while being in the midst of a quarterback competition with the Tigers, where head coach Eli Drinkwitz opened the starting QB battle between Pyne, Sam Horn and Penn State transfer Beau Pribula. Now, with Pyne moving on to the Falcons, the Tigers’ QB1 competition appears down to Horn and Pribula.
Moreover, Pyne appeared in six games last season in the SEC, including going 1-0 with an epic comeback effort in his lone start against Oklahoma on Nov. 9, throwing for 391 yards and three touchdowns to three interceptions on 61.2-percent passing during the 2024 season.
The transfer quarterback had his best career season in 2022, where he went 8-2 in 10 games as the Fighting Irish’s starting QB, throwing for 2,021 yards and 22 touchdowns to six interceptions on 64.6-percent passing in his final season at Notre Dame. He’d transfer to Arizona State that offseason, but never re-established himself as a starting quarterback.

More on Drew Pyne, NCAA Transfer Portal
Following last season’s Oklahoma game, Drinkwitz gave a passionate and full-throated defense of Pyne, blasting the media and other outside noise for how they’ve handled his play. In particular, he made sure to praise Pyne for his play in the win over the Sooners.
“I just can’t say how proud I am of Drew Pyne for all the crap he’s taken,” Drinkwitz said. “You know, I feel like I’m up here all the time having to defend my quarterback, which is not great, but for all the crap he’s taken on Twitter and X, for him to come out here, ignore the noise, some of it from y’all in this room, he goes out there and y’all can raise up at me and look like it’s not, but it is. He goes out there and delivers in the keyest moments in the fourth quarter after fans have been booing. He just goes out there and delivers.”
