4-star SF Kanon Catchings, former Purdue signee, commits to BYU
Four-star small forward Kanon Catchings has committed to BYU and new head coach Kevin Young, a source told On3.
Ranked 39th nationally in the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings, Catchings is the highest-ranked recruit to choose BYU in a decade. Former BYU players Eric Mika (Class of ’13) and TJ Haws (Class of ’14) were ranked 32nd and 55th nationally respectively, according to 247Sports.
Along with the Cougars, Catchings also considered Florida State and NC State.
Catchings, a 6-foot-9 prospect out of Overtime Elite (GA), was originally signed with Purdue but decided to reopen his recruitment earlier this month after being committed to the Boilermakers since September of 2022.
According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Catchings is the No. 39 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. He’s also the No. 12 small forward prospect and the No. 3 player in Georgia. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
