Jaivian Thomas released from hospital after scary hit vs. Oregon
California RB Jaivian Thomas was involved in a scary scene in the third quarter of the Golden Bears’ 63-19 loss at Oregon this weekend. However, positive news has emerged on his status after his injury on Saturday.
The Golden Bears shared an update on Thomas’ health on Twitter on Sunday after the freshman running back took a hit that left him motionless on the field in Eugene and that eventually sent him to the hospital. A day later, though, Thomas has left and is on his way back to Berkeley.
Thomas rushed three times inside Autzen Stadium for 19 yards. For the season, that brought him up to 18 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown.
Thomas played high school football at McClymonds as a native of Oakland. He was a three-star prospect and the No. 796 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was also the No. 58 RB in the class as well as a Top-70 prospect in the state.
Many thoughts and well wishes went out to Thomas yesterday in the midst of and following an alarming moment. Even so, it now looks to be behind him as he comes back today to rejoin his team.

Dan Lanning thanks medical staff for quick response to Thomas’ injury
Jaivian Thomas was carted off the field during California’s 63-19 loss to Oregon on Saturday.
He was taken to a local hospital for further testing after taking a hit during the third quarter. He remained motionless on the ground while being tended to by the medical staff on hand.
Dan Lanning addressed the scary situation in his postgame press conference.
“Certainly don’t want this to go missing but thoughts and prayers for Javian Thomas,” Lanning said. “He got hurt there. I’m proud that our medical staff and their medical staff were able to give him quick care. And we’re praying for great news for him. Never want to see anybody get injured in this game.”
After the loss, Justin Wilcox said that Thomas was alert but was yet to be informed of the extent of his injury.
“He’s alert, interacting with the doctors,” Wilcox said via ESPN. “He does have movement, feeling in his extremities, which is good news. But there’s still a lot of tests that he’s going to undergo. We’re all praying for him.”
