Youngstown (Ohio) Chaney three-star defensive lineman Jason Hewlett has decommitted from Cincinnati, he announced on Thursday.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder had been committed to the Bearcats since September 2021.

“First off I want to thank God for everything he has been to me in my life,” Hewlett wrote on Twitter. “Then I want to thank my friends and family for supporting me through my decision. I’ve had a long time to pray and think this over. I thank the University of Cincinnati and their fans and coaches for everything they have done for me. Thank you for Coach Fick for taking a chance on a kid from Youngstown Ohio. With that being said I want to say I am opening back up my recruitment and decommit from Cincinnati. Respect my decision!”
