3-star tight end Danny Lewis decommits from Cincinnati Bearcats
New Iberia (La.) Westgate tight end Danny Lewis has been committed to Cincinnati since September, but after a couple of recent offers, he has had a change of heart. Lewis announced Wednesday morning that he is backing off his pledge to the Bearcats and reopening his recruitment.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder is the No. 886 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 51 tight end and the No. 37 prospect in Louisiana this cycle.
“First off I want to thank the University of Cincinnati for giving me an opportunity,” Lewis wrote in a tweet. “Thank you guys for recruiting me to the fullest! However, I am choosing to decommit to rethink my decision and open up my recruitment.”
Lewis is expected to take an official visit to Florida next weekend, and he also received an offer from his home state school, LSU, on Wednesday morning.

He committed to Cincinnati in early September over offers from Indiana, Utah, Purdue, Colorado State and a number of others. But the Gators swooped in with a late offer right before the early signing period, and he chose to hold off on signing.
Florida is currently without a tight end commitment in the 2022 class, while LSU has one from three-star Mason Taylor.
