Culture Is Clemson Superpower, But Transfer Portal Could Be Ticket Back To National Title Race | 04.11.24

Last month, Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage four-star cornerback Gregory Thomas made his way to Clemson to visit Dabo Swinney and the Tigers.

The trip resulted in an offer for the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder. The Tigers continue to establish their presence in what looks to be an ACC battle, as Thomas announced on Saturday that he’s locked in an official visit for May 31-June 2.

“My visit was great,” he told On3’s Steve Wiltfong after tripping in April. “I loved the town and coaches and everything. I think the thing that stood out the most was the hospitality and how much of a priority the coaches told me I was.

“They aren’t a school that goes out and gets 100 kids, They selectively choose and build with what they have. Which is something I like. I love the culture they have as well.”

Clemson joins Florida State as programs to lock in OVs with Thomas. The Seminoles have been a major player for the in-state defensive back and are currently trending heavily for his commitment in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). Miami is also in the mix for the blue-chipper.

“It was a great visit … it was good seeing the practice environment and seeing how the coaches are and how the practices are run,” Thomas told Warchant after visiting FSU in March. “It was good, and I liked what I saw.”

Thomas is the No. 269 overall prospect and No. 26 CB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 41 player in Florida.

Clemson Class Breakdown

Clemson’s 11-man class ranks No. 4 in the nation and consists of 10 blue-chip prospects, including the nation’s No. 28 recruit in Norfolk (Va.) Maury four-star EDGE Ari Watford. Watford pledged to the Tigers near the end of January.

“Clemson is a very unique place,” Watford told On3. “The people there and the family-oriented culture Coach Swinney has built stood out to me. People go to Clemson go for the right reasons and that’s something I’ve wanted to be a part of growing up.”

Nine additional four-star recruits are committed to the Tigers, including: Durham (N.C.) Southern defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell, Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian Academy running back Gideon Davidson, Lake City (S.C.) South Florence defensive lineman Amare Adams, Buford (Ga.) offensive tackle Brayden Jacobs, Lawrence (Mass.) Central Catholic quarterback Blake Hebert, Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian Academy interior offensive lineman Easton Ware and Savannah (Ga.) Christian Prep tight end Logan Brooking.

Anderson (S.C.) Belton-Honea Path three-star running back Marquise Henderson, Woodbridge (Va.) Freedom three-star wide receiver Carleton Preston and Cedartown (Ga.) four-star corner Tae Harris have each joined the class since December.
