Barrett Carter ready to ‘flip the narrative’ on Clemson football
The Clemson football program has certainly dipped after reaching six straight College Football Playoffs and winning a pair of national titles. However, senior linebacker Barrett Carter believes that the Tigers have been better in recent years than they have gotten get credit for.
Carter pointed out at the ACC Kickoff event last week that Clemson has won 30 games over the past three seasons, which is a number most programs would love to be at.
“I think we’re right where we need to be,” Barrett Carter said. “If people want to talk down on us that’s fine. We’ve just got to go out there and execute every single day and show them that we’re still Clemson and we can still be back at the top of the mountain.”
The goal for Clemson in 2024 is to leave no doubt that the Tigers are an elite program.
Carter, who returned for his senior season instead of turning pro, wants to lead his team back to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2020. He is confident the Tigers have a team ready to make some real noise nationally.
“I’ve attacked every single day like it’s the national championship. I can’t afford to lose anymore,” Carter said. “I’ve had enough losing in my career. It’s time to really flip the narrative about what Clemson is and show them who the Clemson Tigers are again.”
Barrett Carter on facing rival Georgia in season-opener: ‘We expect to win that game’
One game that can immediately change the narrative about Clemson football is the season opener against Georgia.
Despite the Bulldogs winning two of the past three national titles, Clemson players are confident going into the matchup.
Tigers linebacker Barrett Carter said at the ACC Kickoff Event on Thursday that he likes Clemson’s chances against the Bulldogs.

“It’s a big opportunity,” Barrett Carter said. “We know what Georgia’s done the past couple of years. You know, we’re going into that game expecting to win. That’s how we go into every single game.
“So I’m excited just to compete against them and see how we match up. It should be a really fun game. But we’re going into that game, we’re preparing for that game, to win. We expect to win that game. But just super excited to compete against them.”
Clemson and Georgia are long-time rivals who last played in 2021 as the Bulldogs earned a 10-3 victory in Charlotte.
Georgia went on to win the national title that year and won it again in 2022. Carter, who is from Suwanee, Georgia, was a true freshman in 2021 and played only sparingly. He is now one of the top players on the Clemson defense and is anxious to play his home-state school.
“Yea, I do know a lot of them, and it’s definitely really cool that I’m from Georgia. Just going into my decision to come back and looking at who we open up against, it being Georgia, it’s special,” Carter said. “But I’m excited to compete against them and see how we match up.”
