Blake Wright uses hilarious hidden ball trick in Clemson Regional vs. Coastal Carolina

Clemson third baseman Blake Wright delved into his bag of tricks on Sunday evening in the Clemson Regional vs. Coastal Carolina in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. With the runner off the bag, Wright decided to pull off his best acting job in making them believe he handed the ball off to Clemson’s pitcher, Ethan Darden. Wright beautifully executed the fake hand off. And he calmly stood near third base, and waited for his moment to pounce, and eventually tagged out the Coastal Carolina runner.

It was certainly one of the most beautiful fakes of the 2024 college baseball season. After the Tigers were able to pull out the 12-5 victory, Wright spoke with reporters about the fake hand off. And he and Ethan Darden had actually done it last year, which is why they had such great chemistry.
Blake Wright explained the impressive hidden ball trick
“Yeah, it was pretty cool. Me and Ethan, we did that last year. So, we have pretty good chemistry on that. I don’t really remember how I ended up with the ball and I just kind of gave Ethan a fist pump like, ‘Let’s go.’ But, I thought they thought I gave the ball to him. Or they just weren’t paying attention. So, I sat next to the bag and I was waiting to see what he does. And I was actually gonna give the ball back. Because I thought he saw my glove, but sure enough he stepped right off and went ‘Let’s go!’ and tagged him. And Ethan didn’t step on the mound, called him out. It was awesome,” Wright explained.
