Brad Brownell explains how Clemson has played compared to his expectations
Clemson is currently having one of its best years under Brad Brownell with a 22-9 record to end the regular season. With that said, is it living up to what he expected from this team going in?
For Brownell, he said the Tigers have both overachieved and underachieved. It’s no surprise considering the highs and lows of a season but, overall, he thinks they’ve played a great campaign as he hopes they continue it into the postseason.
“There’s been some times where we’ve played better (than I expected), to be honest with you. There’s some games…where it’s outstanding shooting, execution, shot-making, and scoring. I didn’t know if we’d have all that,” Brownell said. “And then, obviously, we’ve had a couple of performances where we haven’t played as well. I thought there could be some of that. Most years there are a game or two that you don’t play as well as you’d like…Are you good enough to win on those nights? We’ve had a couple where we haven’t been.”
“I think the quality of our play has been pretty good,” said Brownell. “I’m very proud of it and proud of this group…I hoped it would all work. It’s been a really fun group and a group that has played at a high level for a long time.”

Clemson finished in fourth place in the ACC at 14-6. However, they were in the race atop the league all season long. While the Tigers still have some work to do to make the NCAA Tournament, they should feel good about their standing considering they’re still within range on the bubble.
This year isn’t done yet and Clemson could still make some noise during their trip to Greensboro. Still, at least to this point, it sounds like Brownell is already proud of what his group accomplished in ’22-’23.
