Bryant Wesco, a true freshman wide receiver for the Clemson Tigers, didn’t travel with the team to Wake Forest over the weekend due to an injury. Now, head coach Dabo Swinney has shared a positive update on Wesco.

Swinney shared that Wesco is improving and would be considered day-to-day moving forward. That gives him a chance to return to action sooner than later this season.

“Getting better,” Dabo Swinney said. “He’s getting better. It’s not a long-term thing. He’s day-to-day. He’s not week to week. He’s day-to-day… He’s getting better. We’ll get him back. Hopefully sooner than later.”

Immediately following the win over Wake Forest, Swiney explained his absence. Unfortunately, Wesco suffered an ankle injury in Clemson’s Week 6 win over Florida State. At the time, he was able to play through the injury, but in the coming days, it came on and became a bigger problem for the young receiver.

“He rolled it,” Swinney previously said. “I think it was on that two-minute drive where he tried to run to the sideline instead of just getting up the field. He played the whole game. He finished, but he was pretty sore the next day.”

Wesco is a four-star prospect who ranked as the No. 61 overall player and No. 13 wide receiver in the Class of 2024according to the On3 Industry Ranking, after playing his high school football at Midlothian in Texas.

To this point in the season, Wesco has 11 receptions for 262 yards and two touchdowns. Already proving to be a big play threat, he’s also averaging 23.8 yards per catch. His career high in receptions actually came against Florida State, with four, though he had more yards against Stanford and Appalachian State. Those were also the games in which he caught his touchdown passes.

In the injury update where Dabo Swinney shared that Bryant Wesco suffered an ankle injury, he also shared an update on offensive lineman Collin Sadler, who was out with a calf injury, explaining that he’s also day-to-day after a bit of a setback. That opened up an opportunity for other young players on the Clemson offense, like Harris Sewell along the offensive line.

“He played center and guard,” Swinney said. “We had three guys get snaps today. Trent [Howard] actually finished the game snapping. We actually put Trent at right tackle for a little bit of a drive.

Next week, Clemson is set to take on an upset-minded Virginia team and will hope to have Bryant Wesco back for the game.
