Following a season-opening loss to Duke, Clemson returned to action hoping to show the fans considerable improvement. Early on for quarterback Cade Klubnik and the Tigers that seemed quite tenuous.

Early in the game Klubnik threw a wild interception, one that left fans scratching their heads.

“That interception was probably the worst play I’ve ever had at quarterback in my whole life,” Klubnik said. “So just flushing it and just realizing that’s not who I am, just getting back to who I am.”

Somehow the quarterback was indeed able to flush it. By the end of the day, Clemson’s offense had poured on 66 points. Klubnik threw for 315 yards and four touchdowns.

All in all a pretty good outing for the sophomore starter.

“I feel like we really had two bad plays the whole game and other than that I think we played a freaking great game on offense,” Klubnik said. “If you just go look at the tape, it’s never as bad as you think it is, it’s never as good as you think it is. I thought it was a heck of a game, and I was really proud of our offense.”

As far as the interception, Klubnik had more time to break it down. It was a play that simply never went his way from the start.

“I was just trying to throw it away. Just didn’t,” Klubnik said. “I mean I should have thrown it away to the left and just kind of reset. Kind of guys in front of me, where sometimes I think sometimes people don’t realize you can’t really see everything. Blake Miller‘s 6-6, then five other guys right in front of you that you sometimes can’t see around.

“So I was trying to find my back-side curl, I just couldn’t really find him. Couldn’t see him. And then tried to throw it away. It was a poor decision and a poor throw. Definitely one I would want back.”

The good news is Clemson certainly won’t want to give back the overall performance. Klubnik was very sharp after the early miscue, just what the doctor ordered for the Tigers.

He’ll get a chance to keep it rolling this week with a non-conference meeting with Florida Atlantic on tap.
