Clemson‘s 2022 season didn’t go the way the Tigers wanted it it to, prompting a change in offensive coordinator. Out is Brandon Streeter, in comes Garrett Riley.

The change will put star quarterback Cade Klubnik with a new mind on offense. But the Tigers quarterback reiterated he loved Streeter.

“Yeah, it’s a business and you’ve got to understand that,” Clubnik said. “But love coach Streeter to death. I tell people all the time that he’s one of my favorite coaches I’ve ever had, just as a human being and just as a man.

“Just led the group as people and as men. He wasn’t trying to just make better football players, but just make better people. Just loved having him around. Definitely going to miss him, and still keep in touch with him.”

Maximizing Klubnik’s production will be the chief task for Riley.

As a freshman in 2022, Klubnik went 61-of-100 passing for 697 yards and two touchdowns, against three interceptions. He also ran 42 times for 139 yards and a score. But it wasn’t until late in the season that he finally took over for struggling quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.

With a full season at his disposal, Klubnik should be able to build more confidence and get into a rhythm.

Can Garrett Riley get best from Cade Klubnik?

While Cade Klubnik felt strongly about the kind of coach Brandon Streeter was for him a year ago, he admits he’s excited to see what Garrett Riley can bring to the table this year.

Riley has had pretty successful stints at both SMU (2020-21) and TCU (2022) in his recent past.

“Super excited about coach Riley,” Klubnik said. “Just super excited for what he’s going to bring and what he already has brung. Just kind of a fresh start for this offense and just a fresh start for this program. Just getting things rolling and I’m excited, I love him.”
