WATCH: Cade Klubnik throws first career touchdown for Clemson
The moment Clemson fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. Nobody in the Tigers’ 2022 recruiting class was more highly regarded than quarterback Cade Klubnik. Earning five-star status on the On3 Consensus, Klubnik has already begun to live up to the status.
All it took was one drive and Klubnik was able to get into the endzone. He connected with sophomore wide receiver Will Taylor deep in the red zone to extend Clemson’s lead. The touchdown extended the Tigers’ route of Georgia Tech, going up 41-10 after a made extra point.
It might have been in garbage time but Klubnik led an impressive drive down the field. Everybody on the sideline was going nuts as well, celebrating with the true freshman.

There has been a lot of discussion as to who should be the starting quarterback for Clemson. Dabo Swinney has been clear, though. DJ Uiagalelei is going to be the guy going into the season, even with how impressive Klubnik has been since arriving on campus.

Now, with how smooth Klubnik’s singular drive went, Swinney is surely going to be asked more questions about where his quarterback room stands. Going 4-6 with 50 yards and a touchdown is more than impressive for the true freshman — especially against an ACC opponent.
Coming out of high school, Klubnik was ranked a five-star prospect by the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services. He was the No. 1 quarterback and No. 18 overall in the country. Only three other players ranked higher in the Lone Star State than the Austin (Westlake) product.
Swinney has compared Klubnik to the legendary Deshaun Watson, who is a popular name at Clemson. If that’s who he can become in college, the Tigers have quite the player on their hands.
