Clemson outfielder Cam Cannarella simply refused to let the Tigers lose in their Super Regional against the Florida Gators on Sunday. He found freon coursing through his veins in multiple moments when his team desperately needed him. In one of the best plays of the year, Cannarella sprinted back to deep center field, jumped in midair, and made a game-extending catch before crashing into the center field wall.

The catch happened in the bottom of the 10th inning, and simply put, if he drops the ball, Clemson’s season would have been over.

It was without a doubt, one of the best plays in college baseball this year.

That was far from the only play that the Tigers’ superstar made on Sunday.

Clemson was staring right at elimination from the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament at the top of the ninth inning of their Super Regional. That was before Cam Cannarella stepped to the plate, though, with what was at the time, a game-saving play.

Cannarella came up with two on base and one out against Florida. He liked the first pitch that he saw and got all of it as he shot it out to right field and turn a three-run deficit into a tie game at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Clemson trailed for much of their Super Regional matchup on Sunday against Florida.

However, when they needed it most, the Tigers responded at the top of the eighth and ninth innings to force extras.

Cannarella scored a run in the eighth with a single before Tryston McCladdie scored him with one of his own. Then, to start the ninth, Blake Wright and Jacob Hinderleider singled to get themselves on first and second. That was enough for Cannarella to tie it up with his homer.

Clemson unfortunately fell to the Florida Gators in 13 innings on Sunday. But it was without a doubt, one of the best games of the 2024 college baseball season. The Tigers unfortunately came up short in a classic battle. The Florida Gators advanced to Omaha, but Cannarella’s heroics will certainly never be forgotten. It was one of the most impressive performances of the season, making massive plays on one of the biggest stages.
