According to David Hood of TigerNet, Chad Morris is back in the Clemson program as an offensive analyst. Morris is reportedly still going through the “hiring process” but once he is confirmed back with the Tigers, Hood says he will have a similar role as Ted Roof before he followed Brent Venables to Oklahoma.

Head coach Dabo Swinney hired Morris ahead of the 2011 season to become the offensive coordinator. He remained there through 2014, having a ton of success with quarterback Tajh Boyd. Clemson won a ton of games through the four-year period, reaching double-digit wins every single time.

Two different times did Clemson have a top-10 scoring offense in the country. The 2012 season saw the nation’s sixth-highest scoring average at 41.0 points per game. The Tigers had just as many games with over 50 points as they did below 30.

Quite the coaching effort from Morris.

He then left to take his first coaching job in college football with the SMU Mustangs. Morris’s performance in University Park was so good, Arkansas called him up for an SEC head coaching role. Success was not as rampant there, taking the Hogs to a new low before being fired in the middle of his second season.

Auburn was the last place Morris was an assistant coach, spending one year with Gus Malzahn before a coaching change was made on the Plains.

That marked the beginning of his fourth stop in as many years. After Auburn, he returned to Texas High School Football with Allen High School in 2021. This past season, Morris was an offensive analyst with South Florida.

Morris is now back at a place where he has had a ton of success. Having a rough go of it after leaving SMU for Arkansas, getting back to winning ways will be a warm welcome to Clemson’s newest offensive analyst.

Chad Morris to help out new-look Clemson offense

With Morris back with Clemson, he will be working under first-year offensive coordinator Garrett Riley. Swinney made a splash hire by luring Riley away from TCU, who is fresh off a College Football Playoff appearance. Other big-name programs were surely going to come calling had Swinney not pulled off the move.

Expectations are going to be high, especially with a new quarterback running the show. Cade Klubnik, who is from Morris’ native Texas, is taking over during his sophomore season. Klubnik sat most of last year behind DJ Uiagalelei before Swinney had to make a change around the ACC Championship game.

Now, everyone around the program is hoping results are going to improve. Maybe Morris can play a small role in the revitalization of the Clemson offense.
