Chauncey Gibson, 2022 three-star, commits to Clemson
Chauncey Gibson, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard out of Dallas (Texas) Kimball has committed to Clemson basketball for the class of 2022, he tells On3.
Gibson is the Tigers’ second commitment of the class, following three-star power forward Chauncey Wiggins. Clemson is also targeting Ven-Allen Lubin, among others.
Gibson ultimately chose the Clemson Tigers over Texas Tech, SMU, and Old Dominion. He also received offers from Creighton, USF, Tulsa, among others.
Chauncey Gibson on why he chose Clemson
“They called me every day, and I mean every day,” Gibson said. “Sometimes more than once a day. I felt like I was a priority. They wanted me, they needed me, and I feel like I need them. I’ve been liking what I’ve been hearing about how I could fit into their system. They came down to see me every week during the live period at my school and my home.”

“I have a great relationship with Coach (Antonio Reynolds) Dean and Coach Lucas (McKay)…They say I’m able to shoot the ball so well and they like my shot-making ability. Even with me being 6-6, they’re recruiting me as a point guard. They like the way I facilitate. I’m a pass-first type of guy. I like to get my teammates involved because if they’re involved, then I’m going to have a great game. They’re recruiting me as a facilitator, shooter, and really an all-around type guy. They say I can play the one through the three.”
What does Gibson expect his role to be as a freshman?
“They say I have big shoes to fill,” Gibson said. “They’re losing a senior guard so I’m coming in right after him. They say I need to play point guard, I gotta learn the offense, and get my teammates in the right spots. I want to get us to the Final Four. I want to win it all.”
