Jimmy Obertop went on to have a big day for Clemson, going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a walk. Unfortunately for the Tigers, it came in a losing effort.

Miami held off Clemson for an 8-7 victory to advance to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament.

Jake Kulikowski and Antonio Jimenez each homered for Miami in the 8-7 victory. Miami carried an 8-6 lead into the top of the ninth inning but nearly blew the lead.

With a runner on first and two outs, Clemson outfielder Tristan Bissetta drilled a ball to left. It appeared for a moment as though Bissetta had given the Tigers the lead. However, Edgardo Villegas made a leaping catch at the wall to rob the home run and end the game.

Miami improved to 2-0 in pool play with the victory and now advances to the ACC Tournament semifinals.

Clemson will play Louisville on Friday in the ACC Tournament, but even with a win, the Tigers will not advance.

The win was a huge one for Miami as the Hurricanes look to continue their season. Miami entered the ACC Tournament with a 24-29 record. However, they are now two wins away from reaching the NCAA Tournament.

Miami head coach JD Arteaga spoke earlier this week about his team’s mindset as the ACC Tournament got underway.

“We’ve got nothing to lose, man. We’re coming out and all hands on deck,” Arteaga said ahead of the matchup against the Tigers. “We put ourselves in a situation where we’ve got to win the tournament to move on to the NCAA Tournament. So we’ve gotta win the first one, but our goal was to come out here and win all four. So whatever it takes. Every game is a Game 7.

“It’s been done before. You go back to Fresno State a few years ago, they were the last team in. They won their tournament. That’s how they got into the NCAA Tournament. They ended up winning the national championship. Tulane last year kind of a similar run. They were sub .500, got hot at the end and won their tournament and got an NCAA bid. That’s all you ask for, to get a chance to play in the postseason.”
