WATCH: Clemson's Bryan Bresee runs 4.93-second 40-yard dash to rank Top 5 among DTs at NFL Combine
Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee will have all eyes on him at this week’s NFL Combine and after his 40-yard dash it’s certainly likely to stay that way.
Working out with the defensive linemen in Indianapolis, Bresee turned in an extremely impressive 40-yard dash time among defensive linemen, clocking a 4.93 unofficial run on both his first and second attempts.
At that speed, Bresee demonstrated that he can cover short distances in a hurry, something that’s important for defensive linemen.
Bresee goes into the week at the NFL Combine with his accolades preceding him. He’s the former No. 1 overall high school prospect in the 2020 recruiting class, earning a five-star rating from all of the major recruiting services.
Out of Damascus High School in Maryland, Bresee went on to star for Clemson in short order.
He was named the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020 in his first season, while also earning first-team All-SEC recognition by the Associated Press. He was limited in 2020 due to injury but managed to carve out a spot as a second-team All-ACC selection in 2022 as a junior.
Injuries make Bryan Bresee tough to project
Because he had two seasons marred by injury while at Clemson, Bryan Bresee is a bit of a tough player to get a complete scout on, though his 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine will certainly ease some concerns.

Still, there’s less of a body of work than for some other players. Because of that, NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah says it’s tough breaking down Bresee’s film.
“To me, he is a tough player to evaluate, because you see flashes of it. You see some of the flashes of the quickness. I know he has obviously battled the injuries. I think there’s some stiffness there, and maybe some of it is injury-related, but he is not the most loose athlete,” Jeremiah said. “They move him around up and down the line of scrimmage, but I didn’t see somebody that was really, really explosive and fluid and loose. I thought he was more of a tight athlete who has some power, but that’s why I think you get into a little bit of a tough evaluation there.”
Mock drafts are all over the place as far as where Bryan Bresee will be selected.
Jeremiah has Bresee going No. 24 overall to the Jaguars in his latest mock draft. ESPN’s Mel Kiper doesn’t have Bresee going in the first round.
“I have talked to teams that really like him, and I have talked to teams that aren’t nearly as high and don’t see him as a first round player,” Jeremiah said. “It will be interesting to see when it’s all said and done.”
