Brent Venables is leaving Clemson for Oklahoma, and the Tigers top defensive commits Daylen Everette and Jihaad Campbell are sad to see him leave South Carolina

Everette and Campbell each tweeted just a single different emoji Sunday after the news was confirmed, and it spoke volumes about his feelings on the matter.

Everette is the No. 42 overall player and No. 8 cornerback in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The 2022 On300 has Everette as the No. 7 player in the country and the nation’s top cornerback.

The On3 Consensus has Campbell as the nation’s 54th-best player and fifth-best EDGE. On3 again views him more highly, as the No. 29 player in the country and No. 3 EDGE behind five-star players Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage Marvin Jones Jr. and Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson Jeremiah Alexander.

Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star safety and fellow Tigers commit Sherrod Covil got in on the emoji action too. He responded to both Everette and Campbell with the same emoji.

Brent Venables’ hiring at Oklahoma is a full-circle moment for him. He was the defensive coordinator for the Sooners from 1999-2011 before taking the same job at Clemson.

On3’s Jeremy Crabtree said Venables is the right man for the job, and his recruiting skills will be an immediate plus for the program.

“Simply put, Venables is one of the best recruiters in college football over the past 25 years. His track record recruiting against the best of the best during his time K-State, Oklahoma and Clemson is matched by few in the game,” Crabtree wrote. “Over the years, he’s recruited more than 20 five-star prospects. He’s signed dozens and dozens of four-star recruits. Venables has also unearthed hidden gems like lightly recruited but now NFL star Isaiah Simmons.”
