AJ Hoffler

Clemson DE AJ Hoffler is planning to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Hoffler was at Clemson for two seasons.

On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported Hoffler’s intentions to do so on Thursday. He is not yet in the portal at the time of this story.

Hoffler had spent the past two seasons with the Tigers as a sophomore. In total, he appeared in 21 games as a reserve for them, including all 14 this fall with the team winning the ACC Championship and making the College Football Playoff. In that collegiate career so far as an underclassman, Hoffler has posted 15 tackles and a deflection. A dozen of those tackles came this past year.

That’s after Hoffler, an Atlanta native, played high school football at Woodward Academy. He was the No. 289 overall recruit there as a four-star prospect in the 2023 cycle. He also rated as a Top-30 edge and a Top-30 player out of the state of Georgia. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. That made him a recruit ranked in the top half of their class that year that finished at No. 11 in On3’s 2023 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Now, Hoffler is the latest entry into the portal during this cycle for Clemson. To this point, they have three others officially in DB Sherrod Covil along with WRs Noble Johnson and Troy Stellato as Covil (Virginia Tech) and Johnson (Arizona State) have already since committed elsewhere. In turn, the Tigers have also actually added a pair of players in the portal in Purdue DE Will Heldt and Southeast Missouri State WR Tristan Smith.
