It was a solid first half for Clemson against Florida State on Saturday as the Tigers went into the break with a 17-14 lead.

However, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney wasn’t happy with the way the half ended.

Clemson was leading 17-7 with 2:12 left in the first half when FSU went on a five-play, 75-yard drive to cut a 10-point deficit to three at the break. Swinney was disappointed with the game plan from defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin on the drive.

“Well, we probably need to get out of the three-man rush in two-minute right there to start with,” Swinney told ABC after being asked about his defense. “Really disappointed in that. [Jordan Travis] is too good to let him hold the ball, and they’ve got guys that can run around and get open if we give him enough time. So that’s probably the worst thing we’ve done the whole half is that two-minute drive right there. Really disappointed.”

While the Clemson defense had a rough end to the first half, the offense really got going as the half went along.

The Tigers scored 17 points on their final three drives, before the clock ran out to end the half.

Quarterback Cade Klubnik was 13-for-18 for 190 yards passing and one touchdown in the opening two quarters, while also rushing for a touchdown.

“Hey, this is two good football teams. This is a battle like you expected,” Swinney said. “Fortunate to have the lead right now. We’ve gotta get in here and clean up a couple of things in our red-zone defense and offensively we’ve been executing pretty well, pretty efficient.”

Jordan Travis battling through new injury during Clemson game

Just before halftime, ESPN provided an update on Jordan Travis. The Florida State quarterback got banged up last weekend against Boston College and is now dealing with a new injury, according to ABC sideline reporter Molly McGrath.

“Well, after that last drive, quarterback Jordan Travis came off the field with a right hand injury. He was bleeding from that hand and was in visible pain. He keeps shaking it out before going out and that — plus his left shoulder injury — you can tell Travis is frustrated with the pressure he’s facing.”

In the first half, Travis was 12-for-17 passing for 136 yards. He also rushed for a touchdown to keep Florida State in the game. Travis continues to play well, despite dealing with pain.
