Clemson forward Bas Leyte ruled out of Florida State game in second half with shoulder injury

Clemson forward Bas Leyte has been officially ruled out of the Florida State game on Saturday evening. He came out of the locker room at the beginning of the second half.

And the ACC Network broadcast officially updated his injury status a few minutes into the second half. Before joining Clemson this fall, he previously played for the UNCG Spartans (Greensboro, North Carolina).

Last season, the 6-foot-10, 220-pound graduate transfer averaged 7.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game his season for the Spartans, who finished third in the Southern Conference with an overall record of 20-12. In high school, he played two years for New Hampton, helping guide the team to a 23-8 record. Beyte earned honorable mention AAA honors from the NEPSAC.

Clemson cruised to victory, winning 78-67 on Saturday. The Tigers manhandled FSU on the glass, 37-22. They also led FSU in assists, 17-7. Clemson finished with four players in double figures. Chase Hunter led all scorers with 14 points. He was 3-for-3 from the field and connected on all eight of his free throw attempts. P.J. Hall had another steady performance for Clemson, putting in 13 points and grabbing six rebounds. Joe Girard III stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

The Tigers also shot 51% from the field, connecting on 7 of 17 shots from beyond-the-arc. They drilled 21 of their 25 free throw attempts. Josh Beadle dumped in 12 points for Clemson off the bench.

Clemson has won two of their last three games. They lost a 93-90 heartbreaker recently to Georgia Tech in double overtime. With 1:43 left in the second half, the Tigers held a 68-59 lead. But the Yellow Jackets closed the second half on a 12-3 run to send the game into overtime. P.J. Hall and Ian Schieffelin both had impressive performances, stuffing the stat sheet with double doubles. Hall had 31 points and 17 rebounds (both career-highs), while Schieffelin had 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Florida State dropped to 11-7 overall and 5-2 in the ACC with the loss today. The Seminoles had their five-game winning streak snapped today. Clemson improved to 13-5 overall and 3-4 in ACC play with the win. Up next for the Tigers, they’ll face off against the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday, Jan. 27. That one is set for 4:00 PM EST.
