According to On3’s Matt Connolly, Clemson hoops could be getting one of its top players back for tonight’s game against Georgia Tech. Chase Hunter, a 14-point-per-game scorer for the Tigers, missed the last ten days with a foot injury he suffered during the Duke game a couple weeks ago. Apparently, he could be back to tonight, per Connolly, who reports that Hunter is a game-time decision Tuesday night:

“Chase Hunter will be a game-time decision for tonight’s matchup against Georgia Tech.”

The Tigers could use Hunter and his excellent jump shot back in the lineup against Tech. In two games without him, Clemson lost to Wake Forest, then mustered just 51 points in a one-point victory over Virginia Tech, who was winless in conference at the time.

“It wasn’t a major ankle roll or anything like that,” head coach Brad Brownell said after the Duke game, when Hunter initially hurt it. “It’s a ligament. He obviously has a history of foot problems, right. He’s had some issues with his feet before he got here. He’s got extremely flat feet. I don’t know all the details, but it’s been bothering him the last few days and so we just all decided to say, he doesn’t need to play tonight.”

Hunter is a fourth-year junior enjoying his best season as a Tiger. He’s emerged as the team’s point guard this season, averaging over four assists a night to go along with his 14 points. While his loss is obviously massive, Brownell does have options to replace his production and leadership in the form of seniors Alex Hemenway and Brevin Galloway. Neither are the playmaker Hunter is, but they can capably hold the fort down until he comes back, which could be tonight.

Tigers against the Yellow Jackets coming up later. Hopefully Hunter comes out in uniform.
