Clemson lands commitment from Utah Valley transfer forward Carter Welling

Utah Valley transfer forward Carter Welling has signed with Clemson, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. The 6-foot-10 Welling, a rising junior, has two years of college eligibility remaining after spending his freshman season at UC Irvine.
Welling started all 32 games he participated in last season at Utah Valley, averaging 13.1 points on 47.8% shooting to go along with 6.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game during the 2024-25 season. Welling also shot 35.3% from 3-point range and was a 64.6% free throw shooter last season. As a freshman at UC Irvine, Welling averaged 7.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 31 games, making 10 starts in the 2023-24 season.
Welling played high school basketball at Corner Canyon High School in Utah, leading his team to the state’s 6A State Championship in 2019 and earning first-team All-State honors in 2021. As a senior, Welling averaged 16.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steals per game. Welling was the first of two signings for Clemson and head coach Brad Brownell on Friday, later joined by Georgia transfer forward RJ Godfrey.
Georgia forward RJ Godfrey, former Clemson transfer signed to return to Tigers
Georgia transfer forward RJ Godfrey is going back to where it all began for him after signing with Clemson out of the NCAA Transfer Portal on Friday, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Godfrey signed with Clemson just five days after officially entering the portal on March 31.

In the 2024-25 season at Georgia, Godfrey started 33 games for the Bulldogs and averaged 6.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 19.4 minutes per game. For the season, he shot 53.2-percent from the field and 61.1-percent from the free-throw line. Notably, Godfrey was 0-of-11 shooting from beyond the three-point line. On the defensive end, Godfrey averaged 0.6 blocks and 0.6 steals per game.
Prior to his time in Athens, Godfrey appeared in 69 games for Clemson and made one start. He averaged 12.6 minutes per game with the Tigers and put up 4.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game during his two seasons at Clemson.
At Georgia, RJ Godfrey played for Mike White. It was White’s third season as the head coach at Georgia and the first in which he led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament. Previously, at Clemson, he had been part of a team that made a run all the way to the Elite Eight under Brownell.
