WATCH: Clemson linebacker Trenton Simpson shows off incredible vertical leap

Clemson linebacker Trenton Simpson was one of the most highly coveted prospects in America coming out of high school. According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2020 class, he was rated as a five-star prospect and the No. 5 linebacker prospect in America. On Friday morning, he showed everyone a big reason why he was so highly sought after, showing off his freakish vertical leap.

Through two years in Death Valley, Simpson has established himself as one of the premiere linebackers in all of college football. In two seasons, he’s racked up 110 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, 10.0 sacks, three pass breakups, and a forced fumble in 25 games. In 2021, Simpson ranked third on the team with 78 tackles and finished second in both tackles for loss (12.0) and sacks (6.0). He earned second team All-ACC honors from PFF and third team All-ACC honors from Phil Steele last year.

He was recently named a preseason first team All-ACC selection by Athlon Sports for the upcoming 2022-2023 season. Simpson also has a professionally built website full of all of his merchandise and highlights.

According to the On3 Consensus Rankings, Simpson was rated as the No. 24 overall player in America coming out of Mallard Creek (Charlotte, North Carolina) in the 2020 cycle.

Clemson returns an absolutely loaded defensive unit that should be one of the very best in college football. The Tigers’ 2022-2023 defensive unit features five preseason first-team All-ACC selections, per Athlon Sports: Myles Murphy, Bryan Bresee, Tyler Davis, Trenton Simpson, and Andrew Mukuba.

The Tigers also had another player land on Athlon Sports preseason 2022 second-team All-ACC defensive team: Xavier Thomas.

The biggest headline for Clemson heading into the season is undoubtedly who will play under center for them. While D.J. Uiagalelei is the incumbent starter, Cade Klubnik was one of the most decorated prospects in Texas high school football history.
