Austin (Texas) Vandergrift offensive lineman Ian Reed trimmed his favorites a bit over the weekend. Clemson, a newer offer, made the cut for the No. 289 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings. Reed named a top 10 that included Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M and Wisconsin.

Texas leads in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine’s ratings. The Longhorns have a 91.8% chance of landing Reed.

The Tigers offered Reed while he was on campus for the spring game back in April. The Clemson culture has already made an impression on Reed.

“The family aspect that they approached me with has stood out,” Reed said. “The coaches and players want to get better and compete every day. That’s really important to me because I want to develop and grow with the right fit and style wherever I end up choosing to go.”

Life after football opportunities has intrigued Reed as well. He’s seen the alumni base that Clemson has. It’s something he knows that could be a strong resource post-graduation.

“What they have impressed me with is what opportunities they have to offer,” Reed said. “If I didn’t make it to the NFL, I know they have a strong alumni support system.”

The Clemson atmosphere played well with Reed when he was on campus back for the spring game. Reed had the chance to walk amongst the Clemson people throughout the day. That left a mark on the four-star offensive lineman.

“I loved the atmosphere, the people, the tradition and pedigree that they have,” Reed said.

Reed will be back in Clemson soon. He has made plans for an official visit to Clemson on June 3-5.
