No team in college baseball is hotter than the Clemson Tigers, who just won their 14th game in a row with a 4-1 victory over Boston College in the ACC Tournament. The bats got going early for the Tigers in this one, in large part thanks to a Caden Grice bomb in the bottom of the first to give Clemson a lead they never relinquished.

It’s hard to give up a lead when your starting pitcher throws a shutout during his time on the mound. Austin Gordon led the way in the Friday morning matchup, going an even six scoreless innings while giving up just two hits. A bullpen by committee got the Tigers home and kept the shutout intact until the top of the ninth, when the Golden Eagles scored a consolation run.

After the game, Gordon joined the ACC Network crew to discuss his performance and the team’s recent surge.

“Yeah, you know, we stick to our approach every weekend, just let the defense work. And that was my biggest priority, just letting the defense work, and the offense put up four runs early. It was enough to let us secure the win.”

Austin Gordon then reiterated a previous comment from star player Caden Grice, that Clemson’s winning streak is no fluke; the Tigers are just a good team.

“You know, this team has really come together as one. It’s awesome what Coach (Erik) Bakich and his staff have done. Like Caden Grice (said) the other day, you know, we’re not hot, we’re just good. Just took us a little bit to find out.”

They aren’t hot, they’re just good. Pretty cool comment from the Tiger starter after a masterful outing on the mound. He was next asked about his personal development throughout the season, and he praised the coaching staff for helping him add some extra pitches to his arsenal this year.

“Oh yeah, for sure. Coach (Jimmy) Belanger has been really big for me. Early in the season, we kind of changed a little bit; I added another pitch in there. We’re working on a fifth pitch, trying to get a splitter down, and I give all the credit to Coach Belanger. He’s been there the whole way and really just been pushing me to be the best that I can.”

Lastly, Gordon said the team is taking it one game, one pitch, at a time and not getting ahead of themselves in the postseason.

“We’re just focused on the next game. You know, we got North Carolina tomorrow. Yeah, we’re just taking it one pitch at a time, just focus on the next game and not worry too much on the field. Just make sure we’re putting our focus on that.”
