Clemson Tigers small forward Asa Thomas has entered the Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. He will now look for a new team to play for in the 2025-26 season.

Asa Thomas initially came to Clemson as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 194th-ranked player nationally and the 42nd-ranked small forward coming out of high school. Thomas played his high school basketball at Lake Forest in Illinois.

While in high school, Thomas had a highly decorated career. He was a two-time Illinois First Team All-State selection and a two-time North Suburban Conference Player of the Year selection. On top of that, he broke his high school’s records for career three-point shots made and three-point shots made in a season. On3’s Jamie Shaw broke down what he saw from Thomas as a high school recruit as well.

“Asa Thomas has good size with a sturdy frame and good length. He is a tough-nosed player,” Shaw wrote. “High IQ. Can move his feet as a team defender on the wing. Will bang down low and use leverage. The lateral quickness will be the question, lack of explosive pop. But he knows his game. He has a quick release on his jump shot and moves well off the ball. He can handle the ball for two and three dribbles in the half-court.”

During his time at Clemson, Thomas has had relatively limited playing time. He made 12 appearances in games for the 2024-25 season, averaging 2.3 minutes per game played. During that time, he averaged 1.2 points, 0.2 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game. He also shot 40 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range, and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line. On the defensive end, he had 0.1 steals per game. He has not appeared in a game since February.

Thomas also did not appear in a game during his freshman season. That allowed him to redshirt and gives him three seasons worth of eligibility remaining for him to use at his upcoming school. That decision to redshirt was related to a shoulder injury he suffered that forced him to get surgery.

The Tigers are coming off a season where they went 27-7 and 18-2 in ACC play. However, Clemson had a disappointing NCAA Tournament, getting knocked out in the opening round in an upset loss. That came a season after the Tigers made an Elite Eight run. They would also lose in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament.
