Clemson slugger Caden Grice rakes 2-run home run for early lead vs. Lipscomb
Clemson two-way star Caden Grice was one of the hottest hitters in the country entering the NCAA Tournament. It’s safe to say that the junior has picked up where he left off in the postseason.
Grice blasted a two-run home run over the wall in right-center field to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Lipscomb.
The lefty pounded the first pitch he saw over the fence for his team-high 17th home run on the season. Grice also leads the Tigers with 65 RBIs.
Caden Grice has now homered in five of his past eight games, and his average is up to .306 on the year.
The Tigers are the No. 1 seed in the Clemson Regional and the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Bisons are the No. 4 seed in Clemson’s regional.
Other teams joining Clemson at its regional include No. 2 seed Tennessee and No. 3 seed Charlotte. Those two teams will face off on Friday night in their opening game of the NCAA Tournament.
The winner of Clemson-Lipscomb and Tennessee-Charlotte will meet Saturday night, with the two losing teams from their opening game playing an elimination game on Saturday.
Tennessee and Clemson are the two favorites in the regional, but Charlotte and Lipscomb won’t be easy to handle.

Clemson’s Erik Bakich raves about Caden Grice’s ‘God-given ability’ as two-way player
Clemson is arguably the hottest team in college baseball right now, and two-way star Caden Grice is a big reason why.
Grice has been getting the job done on the mound and at the plate for the Tigers for most of the season. He entered the NCAA Tournament with an 8-1 record and 3.25 ERA. At the plate, Grice is batting .306 with a team-high 17 home runs and 65 RBIs.
“He’s a special player. I mean his God-given ability is better than most,” Clemson coach Erik Bakich told the ACC Network during Friday’s game. “That’s how you draw up a baseball player right there — 6-6, 250 that’s fast and explosive and can do both ways.”
Grice is draft-eligible and is likely to be a high pick in this year’s MLB draft.
Bakich believes he can continue to have success on the mound and at the plate at the professional level.
“I don’t know if he’ll have to pick,” Bakich said. “I think he can do both at the highest level. He’s a very special player.”
