The Clemson basketball program has hired Preston Greene away from Miami to serve as the director of strength and conditioning. Greene is returning to Clemson after graduating from the school and previously working under head coach Brad Brownell for a short period of time.

Greene spent only one season at Miami after coming over from Florida.

Needless to say it was an impressive one season as he helped the Hurricanes to the Final 4. Now he is returning to Clemson to lead its basketball strength and conditioning program.

“It’s great to have Preston back in Tigertown. He’s one of the most respected strength coaches in our business,” Clemson coach Brad Brownell said in a statement. “This is an extremely important position because of the impact strength coaches have on the development of our players. He’s had lots of success training high-level athletes and he’ll be instrumental in helping our players reach their potential.”

While at Florida, the Gators made the NCAA Tournament in seven of his 11 seasons, including reaching the Final 4 in 2014.

Greene graduated from Clemson in 1999 and spent two years working at Clemson, beginning in 2009. One of those years was with Brownell and the men’s basketball program. He is excited to return to his alma mater.

“Clemson is such a special place,” Greene said in a statement. “It’s where I got my start and went to school, so it’s very special to me and a place that I value. I’m excited to be able to return and work for Coach Brownell again. I can’t wait to get going with the guys this summer and help our players achieve big things in their careers.”

During his career, Greene has also worked at Stanford under Johnny Dawkins. He also had stops at Charlotte and Arizona.

Kevin Keatts jokes about ‘trading’ with Clemson after Ben Middlebrooks, Jack Clark transfers

One player who Greene will work with this season is Jack Clark, who transferred to Clemson from NC State. It was almost a trade between the two ACC programs as Clark came to Clemson, while former Tigers center Ben Middlebrooks transferred to NC State.

Wolfpack head coach Kevin Keatts joked that NC State intentionally announced the Middlebrooks commitment early in the day after they knew Clark was announcing his pledge to Clemson the same afternoon.

“Well, we heard that Jack was going to announce at 12 and we weren’t going to let them beat us again, and so we said, ‘You know, what we’re going to do, get ours in at 11 o’clock,” shared Keatts when asked about the program’s player swap with Clemson.

“So it worked out well. Brad and I, we teased at the ACC meetings about, you know, it was a trade and everybody else in the room, too, like…oh, on the same day you made a trade. And, you know, I wish Jack luck there and (Middlebrooks) is going to be good here.”
