Several Clemson starters out for spring due to injuries

Clemson dealt with several injuries throughout the 2021 season and still has several players dealing with injuries as the 2022 season gets underway.

Dabo Swinney announced prior to the start of Wednesday’s first spring practice that 12 scholarship players will begin the spring in yellow jerseys and will not be able to participate. Most players in yellow are expected to miss the entire spring.

The list of players out includes multiple starters, including defensive tackle Bryan Bresee, running back Will Shipley, wide receiver E.J. Williams and tight end Davis Allen.

Other notable players who are currently injured and in yellow are Kobe Pace, Tre Williams, Sage Ennis, Tyler Venables and Malcolm Greene.

In addition to having several players in yellow, several other Tigers are in green, meaning they can participate in individual drills but not full contact.

Players currently in green include safety Lannden Zanders, cornerback Fred Davis and offensive lineman Dietrick Pennington.

Swinney said of the players in green: “[They’re] close to being full speed and full go, working their way into that. Just don’t do full collision type stuff.”

In addition to players dealing with injuries, Swinney announced earlier Wednesday that offensive lineman Mason Trotter will miss most of the 2022 season. Trotter was suspended for the bowl game for a violation of team rules. Swinney did not get into specifics about why Trotter will be unable to play.
