Clemson lands former quarterback via the transfer portal
The Clemson Tigers have added a familiar name to the quarterback room.
“Former five-star QB Hunter Johnson’s college football career comes full circle and he is transferring back to Clemson,” Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports tweeted. “He never lost touch with Dabo Swinney and will provide depth to a QB room that includes DJ Uiagalelei and Cade Klubnik.”
Johnson played one season for Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers before transferring to Northwestern where he played the last three seasons. He is the first notable pickup in the Transfer Portal for Swinney and his staff.
“I initially reached out to Coach Swinney to honestly see if he had any GA spots,” Johnson told 247Sports. “My girlfriend we went to Clemson together and we have been looking at going back down South and reached out to him about GAing because I wanted to get my MBA. I reached out to him and he asked if I had my sixth year because of COVID and I told him I still did. It wasn’t really my intention initially of calling him. It was pretty exciting and I took a day or so to think over things and it felt like it was a great situation for me and her all around and just being able to go finish my sixth year and play at a place I’ve grown to love over the years and be part of the room. That’s what he told me, he wants to have somebody in the room who’s older who’s had some experience in college football and the fact I already been there and been in the system and know the system helps even more. He thought it would be a really really cool situation.”
Andrew Booth announces plan for football future
Andrew Booth feels like he’s been part of the Clemson Tigers’ secondary longer than three seasons, but on Saturday night, the highly talented defensive back announced on social media he will forgo his remaining year of eligibility and prepare for the NFL Draft.
While each athlete is entitled to their own path, Booth joined every other NFL-caliber Clemson Tiger in playing together yet again in the Bowl vs. Iowa State, but this shouldn’t be a major surprise.

Dabo Swinney has clearly built a family that also serves as a football program and the culture bleeds through every player who plays there for any extended time.
In a clearly heartfelt note that was carefully scripted over an impressive tiger-themed graphic (seriously, take a look for yourself right here), Andrew Booth sent a letter explaining his decision on his official social media accounts on Saturday night.
Andrew Booth begins by giving sincere thanks to each of his coaches at Clemson. He closed that intro paragraph out with…. “Best is Standard” is always ingrained in me.
Then, that notion of family came up quickly. The sincerity is obvious.
“Whether I carried or was being carried, I could always depend on my teammates. The bond between me and my brothers made Clemson FB the experience of a lifetime.
“To everyone at Clemson University and in the Clemson community, it has been a pleasure to play the game I love in front of the best fans in college football Y’all make Death Valley I am honored to be a Clemson Tiger Forever!” Booth added.
After thanking his family, the NFL hopeful closes the message out with this:
“I will never forget who i am and who made me,” Andrew Booth continued. “It is with great gratitude and excitement that I inform you all that I have chosen to DECLARE DOE THE 2022 NFL DRAFT! –
In three seasons at Clemson, Booth had 68 tackles, five interceptions and nine passes defensed. This year, he had 37 tackles and three interceptions
