Clemson Tigers rise in On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings
Clemson added another blue-chip prospect to its 2024 recruiting class on Thursday when Olney (Md.) Good Counsel four-star EDGE Darien Mayo committed to the Tigers. His pledge elevated Dabo Swinney‘s program in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
Clemson’s class now ranks No. 6 in the country. The Tigers’ group, which is also No. 1 in the ACC, rose six spots from No. 12.
“The visit was great,” Mayo told On3’s Chad Simmons about his Clemson official on June 4. “How they treated me and my family stood out. Viewing the campus, seeing the college life and the meetings we had were definitely the highlights of the trip.”
The 6-foot-8, 250-pound pass rusher chose the Tigers after taking official visits to Ohio State (June 9) and USC (June 16). Mayo, who also considered Michigan, Maryland and South Carolina, is now the sixth top-200 recruit pledged to Swinney and Co.
Mayo is the No 167 overall prospect and No. 10 EDGE in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 3 player in Maryland.
On3 rates Mayo higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2024 On300, he is the No. 89 overall prospect, No. 8 EDGE and No. 2 player in Maryland.

Clemson already has one of the nation’s top classes
June has been a big month for Clemson on the recruiting trail. Over the last 22 days, they have landed commitments from Mayo, Midlothian (Texas) five-star wide receiver Bryant Wesco, Jefferson (Ga.) five-star linebacker Sammy Brown and Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Catholic four-star wide receiver TJ Moore. Brown, Moore and Wesco all chose the Tigers between June 5 and 6.
“This 2024 class we’re going to have might be one of the best classes in history,” Brown told On3’s Chad Simmons on June 5. “The domino effect has already begun. Because of me committing, there’s going to be others over the next couple of days and weeks. This class is going to be really good.”
In addition to two five-stars, Clemson has commitments from seven four-stars. They are Mayo, Moore, Woodstock (Ill.) Marian Central Catholic tight end Christian Bentancur, Atlanta (Ga.) Pace Academy defensive lineman Hevin Brown-Shuler, Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day cornerback Tavoy Feagin, Lagrange (Ga.) Troup County safety Noah Dixon and Norcross (Ga.) Meadowcreek defensive lineman Champ Thompson.
The Tigers’ class also includes Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb three-star running back David Eziomume, Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit three-star linebacker Drew Woodaz and Cornelius (N.C.) William Amos Hough three-star kicker Nolan Hauser.
