Clemson was upset in their first game of the month this weekend with a dozen-point loss to Louisville. Dabo Swinney used no explanation for it, though, besides one that involved himself.

Swinney received a question about how the bye week may have impacted the Tigers following their 33-21 defeat on Saturday. He said that was no defense for how they played as, simply put, he says he was out-coached by their opponent on the opposite sideline.

“I don’t make no excuses. There’s no excuses. There’s none,” Swinney said postgame. “No excuses. That ain’t got nothing to do with it”

“Just flat-out got my butt out-coached tonight,” stated Swinney. “Ain’t got nothing to do with it.”

After a blowout loss in their opener, Clemson has been one of the best teams in the country over September and October. They’d gone on to have a six-game win streak coming into this weekend, including their first five in conference play, with them coming by an average margin of victory of 27.3 points.

However, that ended against Louisville after their second bye on Saturday.

The Cardinals took control of the game through the middle of it with two touchdowns in the final minutes of the second quarter and three field goals in the third quarter to go on a 23-0 run and take a lead at 26-7. After a Tiger touchdown in the fourth, they then immediately answered with a one-play drive because of a 45-yard rushing score that ensured that the margin would never get back to single digits.

With that, Clemson has a second loss and, with four games to go, will now be in a more difficult situation in trying to make the ACC Championship or the College Football Playoff. That’s on Swinney himself as he said with the performance that put them in that position.

“It hurts. It’s a missed opportunity, huge missed opportunity,” said Swinney. “We didn’t deserve to win. You know, they absolutely deserved to win and we did not so you’ve got to give them all the credit.”

“We looked like a very poorly-coached team tonight and that’s on me. Simple as that,” Swinney said. “I mean, just incredibly disappointed with our performance tonight.”
