Clemson has done something in the second season that DJ Uiagalelei is the team’s starting quarterback that they were unable to do in the first. They’ve started strong. This is partially because DJ Uiagalelei has improved as a quarterback for Clemson. It also didn’t hurt that the Tigers didn’t have to play Georgia early in the season. Either way, it has allowed Clemson to control its own destiny through five weeks of the season.

While speaking to the media, DJ Uiagalelei was asked how it felt to be in the driver’s seat, controlling their own destiny as an unbeaten team, compared to the 2021 season

“Yeah, 100x better,” DJ Uiagalelei said. “I know Coach [Dabo] Swinney talks about it all the time. He says that you want to be able to control your own destiny.”

“I feel like, each and every game, he’s always preached that to us, just be able to control your destiny. Take it one game at a time. You always look at the finish line but you don’t want to get too focused on that. So, you just want to take it one game at a time,” DJ Uiagalelei.

“But, it is a lot nicer than last year. Being able to be undefeated, 5-0, rather than being where we were last year.”

To this point in the season, DJ Uiagalelei has shown improvement from the 2021 season, especially becoming a better running threat. He has thrown for 1,242 yards and 11 touchdowns to only a single interception. He also has three rushing touchdowns, including two against a good NC State team.

DJ Uiagalelei and the Clemson offense are having fun

Last season, it was clear that the Clemson offense was pressing. As DJ Uiagalelei struggled to live up to expectations, the offense faltered around him. This year, however, the offense is having fun.

“Yeah, I think definitely having a lot of fun out there,” DJ Uiagalelei said. “I mean, you probably see it by the way we play. A lot of guys have a lot of energy out there. Just having fun man, playing with each other on offense. We just keep growing, each and every game. There’s a lot of room for improvement, still, but we’re doing a lot of great things on offense. And like you said, man, we’re just out there, just playing. We’re not out there manufacturing points, we’re just going out there and having fun.”
