On3’s Director of Scouting and Rankings, Charles Power, says Woods reminds him of former 5-star recruit and Florida State defensive lineman Timmy Jernigan.

Power had this to say about the comparison:

Both Peter Woods and Timmy Jernigan are compactly-built attacking defensive linemen who make their hay with first step quickness and pass rush ability. Woods and Jernigan aren’t as big or long as their highly-rated peers but were both highly productive as high school players.

Woods currently ranks as the No. 24 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 4 defensive lineman and the No. 5 player in the state of Alabama behind James Smith, Tony Mitchell, Jahlil Hurley, and Qua Russaw.

Peter Woods Scouting Summary

Compact defensive lineman creates disruption with first-step quickness and speed in pursuit. Smaller than most of his fellow top defensive line prospects at around 6-foot-2, 280 pounds. Highly productive and disruptive while starring for one of the more talented high school teams in the Southeast. Lines up inside and at end for Thompson High. Has some of the best play speed we’ve seen from a defensive lineman nationally. Runs like a linebacker in pursuit. Makes plays behind the line of scrimmage at a high clip. Elevated his play as a junior. Likely projects as a three-technique long-term. Lacks prototypical length for top prospects at the position.
