CLEMSON — One of Clemson’s top overall targets in the class of 2022 will be announcing his destination this weekend.

Five-star safety Keon Sabb is pledging to his future school on Saturday, according to 247Sports. The elite prospect will make his announcement at 4 p.m. on CBS Sports HQ.

The New Jersey native has transferred to IMG Academy in Florida to play his senior season. The blue-chip prospect is down to six finalists: Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Penn State and Texas A&M.

Sabb was offered by the Tigers back in July 2020. Nearly a full year later, the defensive back announced his top six schools to begin the month of June. During the open recruiting period, the five-star took official visits to Georgia, Michigan, Penn State and Texas A&M. Sabb took an unofficial visit to Clemson the weekend of June 11 as Dabo Swinney’s program does not host official visitors until the fall. Defensive coordinator Brent Venables is the primary recruiter for Sabb.

In the 247 Sports Composite, Sabb is ranked No. 22 overall in the class of 2022, earning five-star status. The 6-foot-2 safety is an All-American Bowl selection who has the chance to be a multi-positional player in college.

Clemson already has a commitment from one of Sabb’s teammates in IMG defender Jihaad Campbell. Campbell committed to the Tigers last month.

Currently, in the class of 2022, the Tigers have eight verbal commitments. Austin (Texas) Westlake quarterback Cade Klubnik is the highest-ranked at No. 65 overall. That would change if Sabb joined the fold. Currently, Clemson does have a pair of defensive backs on board. Top-200 safety Sherrod Covil out of Virginia committed in June, as did top-200 cornerback Toriano Pride out of St. Louis. With another commitment, the Tigers could be addressing their needs at defensive back in a hurry.

Under Venables, Clemson has been willing to use multi-dimensional defensive players in multiple roles. Former five-star Trenton Simpson is set to start at Sam linebacker as a sophomore but could also be used as an edge rusher. True freshman Barrett Carter was a five-star recruit out of Metro Atlanta who could play linebacker or safety for the Tigers this season. Fellow newcomer Andrew Mukuba got snaps at safety, cornerback and nickel this past spring. Sabb could be a similar multi-positional talent.

Keon Sabb will announce his commitment Saturday. Clemson will hope all of its work is enough.
