Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews is visiting Clemson on Wednesday, according to On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons.

The trip is his second visit to campus since the new year after also visiting in January for the Tigers’ junior day.

Matthews is the No. 8 overall prospect and No. 3 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 2 player in Georgia.

The 6-foot-0.5, 180-pounder is among the most prized recruits in the entire country, and the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has the Tigers with a narrow lead over multiple schools to land a commitment from Matthews.

A standout on the basketball court as well, Matthews didn’t begin his run of spring visits until later in March. He started with a visit to Georgia (March 23) and followed that up with visits to Auburn (March 29), Tennessee (April 3), NC State (April 4) and most recently to Alabama.

Between all of those visits, Matthews announced his top 12 of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Colorado, USC, Tennessee, LSU, Michigan, Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Ohio State on March 28.

Clemson is recruiting him to play on both sides of the ball, with wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham and defensive backs coach Mickey Conn both involved in his recruitment.

“It’s shifted, at first it was really just coach (Mickey) Conn talking to me but when they saw that I can play wide receiver too, coach (Tyler) Grisham came into the picture too,” Matthews told On3’s Jeremy Johnson. “Now, I have the option to play wide receiver or safety… Coach Grisham is really cool. I talk to him all the time.”

He added that he is likely to take an official visit with the Tigers this summer.

Mike Matthews Scouting Summary

“Two-way playmaker with elite ball skills who has blossomed into one of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2024 cycle. Measured at 6-foot-0.5, 185 pounds with a 6-foot-6 wing-span prior to his junior season. Lines up at both receiver and safety for Parkview High. Pairs that length with advanced coordination and hands to result in a considerable catch radius. Catches the ball away from his body and has shown the ability to win in contested situations on Friday nights and in 7-on-7 settings. A bouncy athlete who doubles as a standout basketball player in high school and on the AAU circuit. Still developing as a route-runner, but is showing progress as a junior. One of the top overall prospects from the state of Georgia regardless of class.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
