Former Clemson quarterback Hunter Helms has signed with Rhode Island, the football program announced on Friday.

Helms announced in November that he was entering the transfer portal after four seasons with the Tigers.

Helms originally joined the Clemson program as a walk-on, before being placed on scholarship. He was the backup quarterback for the Tigers in 2023 and completed 9 of 12 passes for 83 yards.

The Columbia, South Carolina native had FBS offers coming out of high school but chose to walk on at Clemson instead. He was ranked as a three-star prospect in the class of 2020.

Hunter Helms appeared in nine games over his four seasons with the Tigers, including three as a freshman in 2020.

The season, Helms completed 9 of 12 passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns. In 2021, Helms was 5 of 13 passing for 58 yards, while appearing in two games. He did not receive any playing time in 2022, before appearing in four games this past season as Clemson went 9-4.
