Heather Dinich shreds Clemson for No. 14 ranking in 2024 preseason AP Poll
The AP Preseason Top 25 Poll was released on Monday, setting the scene for the upcoming college football season and bringing a ton of differing opinions regarding the inaugural rankings of the year. As the college football landscape was immediately filled with takes about what was right and wrong about the first Top 25.
College football insider Heather Dinich joined ESPN’s Get Up on Tuesday morning and dished on the preseason poll. Asked who she believes is the is the most overrated team in the Top 25 by host Mike Greenberg.
“Clemson, why so much love for the Clemson Tigers?” Dinich asked. “They had four conference losses last year, which is as many as they’ve had combined in the past six seasons.”
The Tigers ranked No. 14 in the preseason poll after taking a step back last season with a 9-4 record, their first season without double-digit wins since 2010 in the program’s third year under head coach Dabo Swinney. Seemingly distancing themselves from their previous run of dominance with just one ACC title in the last three seasons following six straight conference championships.
Not to mention three straight years outside of the College Football Playoff following six consecutive seasons in the CFP where Clemson appeared in four national championship games and won two.

The College Football Playoff expanding to 12 teams will surely help Clemson return to the postseason, but there’s one particular aspect of this year’s Tigers’ team that does not have Dinich convinced they should be ranked so high.
“People keep telling me their defense is going to be great, their defense is always pretty good,” Dinich said. “But they’ve got to get a quarterback. Cade Klubnik is back, until we see offensive improvement, I don’t see why there should be so much love for the Clemson Tigers.”
Klubnik did not have the strongest year last season in his first full season as Clemson’s starting quarterback, throwing for 2,844 yards, 19 touchdowns, and nine interceptions after helping lead Clemson to an ACC title win in his first career start as a true freshman in 2022.
Clemson’s defense is expected to maintain their success, but all eyes will be on their offense to see if Klubnik can take a step in the right direction and if he can get some much-needed help from his supporting cast. Who will be tested early in the season with a Week 1 matchup versus the No. 1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta.
