The return of Clemson wide receiver Justyn Ross is one of the most highly anticipated events in college football this season. It’s been a long 18 months for him to wait to return to the football field.

Last spring, Ross got hit on a slant pass and went down. He suffered from stinger symptoms and numbness. He didn’t practice for the rest of the day, but was fine on the sidelines for the rest of the spring.

Then doctors discovered Ross had a congenital fusion in his neck and spine that he was born with. The surgery addressed the issue, but some doctors feared the condition would possibly be career threatening for Ross.

He was a non-contact participant throughout practice this spring for the Tigers and was only recently given full medical clearance to be a full-contact participant in fall camp. The uber-talented wide receiver posted the announcement to his Instagram page a week ago.

Now that he’s finally back, he gives Clemson one of the most dynamic wide receivers in all of college football. There are lots of questions if he can return to the form he once had, but there’s no denying the spectacular tape he put on film for the 2018 season.

As a freshman, he hauled in 46 catches for 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns. That’s an average of over 21 yards per catch.

He torched Alabama’s secondary to the tune of 6 catches for 153 yards and one touchdown in the national championship game, too. The Alabama native made several acrobatic grabs in the game, but none bigger than his 17-yard one handed stunner on 3rd-and-9. His masterpiece of a performance was instrumental in Clemson’s 44-16 throttling of the Tide, lifting the Tigers’ to the 2019 national championship in jaw-dropping fashion.

Justyn Ross spoke with the media recently to discuss the upcoming college football season and his Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback, D.J. Uiagalelei.

On his chemistry with D.J. Uiagalelei: “Oh yeah. I feel like me and DJ. We got a real good chemistry. We’ve been working all through summer and the spring. So I feel like we’ve got a real good chemistry.”

On whether or not he’ll play a full game against Georgia: “If it’s up to me, I’m ready to play a full four-quarter game.”

On whether or not he’ll try to run into a safety to get his first hit out of the way: “Nah, I probably won’t just run into the safety. … But when it comes (the first hit), I’m gonna be ready.”
