Paul Finebaum: Clemson has a serious problem
Following their season opening loss, Paul Finebaum believes the Clemson Tigers have a serious problem. While Georgia’s impressive defense was on display, Finebaum was critical of Clemson and their offense this morning.
“I think it said a lot about Clemson’s offense,” said Finebaum on Sportscenter. “They have serious offensive line problems.
“As any person in the stands or around the country watching that game could tell. Yeah, there were seven sacks, a lot of those were on D.J. [Ungalelei]. Still, they couldn’t find any production at all. This was an offense that’s been averaging in the forties for the last couple years under Trevor Lawrence.
“You have to give some of the credit to the Georgia defense . . . but against quality teams, they have not looked that great in recent years. Remember the Ohio State game at the end of last season, and this one.”
As Finebaum mentions, Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei had a rough go of things in last night’s loss. His statline was unimpressive, completing just 19 of 37 passes for 187 yards and an interception.
“Where do they go now for a quality win?”
Following his concern for the Tigers offense, Finebaum mentions that he doesn’t know where a quality win will come from for Clemson.
“Their biggest problem in addition to their offensive line, is where do they go now for a quality win?” said Finebaum. “The ACC was a disaster over the weekend. They are going to look long and far to try to get back into the College Football Playoff.

“I know their fans will say all we have to do is win, we go to Charlotte again, win the ACC. It may not be that easy, because of Georgia and Alabama – the path that they’re currently on.”
Finebaum is vindicated when looking at the rest of the schedule for Clemson, as no contenders jump off the screen. While teams like Florida State and South Carolina may play them tough, it’s nothing like the gauntlet the SEC teams will run this season.
Perhaps Clemson lost twice this weekend, as North Carolina being exposed by Virginia Tech doesn’t bode well for their potential ACC Championship Game opponent. Moreover, what once looked like a potential quality win has evaporated for the time being.
While Dabo Swinney and D.J. Uiagalelei may not be worried about the rest of the season, Paul Finebaum is right to worry about the Clemson Tigers
