Peter Woods injury update: Status of Clemson star for Virginia Tech game revealed
The status of Clemson star defensive tackle Peter Woods for Saturday’s game at Virginia Tech has been revealed. Woods is out for the game and is not on the travel roster after leaving last weekend’s game against Louisville with an injury.
Dabo Swinney spoke earlier this week about Peter Woods and what he was dealing with. He didn’t go into details of the injury but did say that the sophomore was hit in the head.
“It was a kick-out block, and the guy kind of hit him with the top of his head. Really kind of dangerous on the guy that hit him, actually,” Dabo Swinney said. “Kind of hit him kind of high. He tried to keep going a little bit, but it just didn’t feel right.”
Woods has appeared in six games for Clemson this season, making five starts. The former five-star recruit has recorded 14 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and a sack.
In addition to Woods, Clemson has some other injuries on the defensive line. Dabo Swinney already announced earlier this week that DeMonte Capehart will miss the Virginia Tech game. Capehart has appeared in eight games and made six starts this season. He has 20 tackles and 1 tackle for loss.
Fellow defensive tackle Tre Williams is also banged up, but he is on the travel roster against the Hokies. Williams has appeared in eight games and made two starts. Swinney was asked how Tre Williams and Peter Woods were progressing on Wednesday.

“Just a little bit better each day,” he said. “Still just Wednesday, so they’ve made a little progression each day. We’ve still got a couple more days before we’ve got to head up. We leave here at 1 on Friday, so every day’s going to help and every minute. But they’re progressing pretty good.”
Clemson cornerback Shelton Lewis is also set to miss an extended amount of time, Swinney announced earlier this week. Lewis has appeared in seven games and made four starts. He has 14 tackles and two pass breakups.
There’s a chance Lewis could return for the postseason, according to Swinney, but that’s likely his only opportunity of playing again in 2024.
“Probably be hard for him to get back in time. Very similar to what Antonio [Williams] had last year. So maybe postseason, but right now he’s probably not going to make it back these next 3.5 weeks,” Swinney said.
