Peter Woods, Shelton Lewis injury update: Dabo Swinney shares latest on Clemson defenders
Clemson not only lost Saturday’s game against Louisville, but the Tigers also lost some important defenders in the process. Defensive linemen Peter Woods and DeMonte Capehart, as well as cornerback Shelton Lewis, were injured against the Cardinals.
Dabo Swinney provided an injury update on the trio during his media availability on Tuesday. The good news for Clemson is that it doesn’t appear as though Peter Woods will miss too much time, if any at all.
However, DeMonte Capehart and Shelton Lewis didn’t receive as good of news.
“He’s day-to-day,” Swinney said of Peter Woods. “Capehart is out, for sure. He’s going to be out a little while. Shelton’s probably done. He’s got a toe injury. Not sure if he’ll make it back over these next four weeks.”
Woods has appeared in six games for Clemson this season, making five starts. The former five-star recruit has recorded 14 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and a sack.
Capehart has appeared in eight games, with six starts. He has 20 tackles and one tackle for loss. Finally, Lewis has played in seven games and made four starts. He has 14 tackles and two pass breakups.

There’s a chance Lewis could return for the postseason, according to Swinney, but that’s likely his only opportunity of playing again in 2024.
“Probably be hard for him to get back in time. Very similar to what Antonio [Williams] had last year. So maybe postseason, but right now he’s probably not going to make it back these next 3.5 weeks,” Swinney said.
Despite the injuries, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney isn’t making excuses. He knows that at this point in the season, every team is dealing with some kind of issue.
“Listen, everybody’s got depth problems. Everybody has different challenges,” Swinney said. “You’ve got to get the next guy ready to go.”
