Dabo Swinney updates status of Beaux Collins, Antonio Williams for South Carolina game
Clemson is banged up at receiver entering Saturday’s rivalry game with South Carolina. The Tigers have had wideouts coming in and out of the lineup all season due to injuries, and Clemson could be down a couple of key receivers this weekend.
Dabo Swinney provided an update on starting receivers Antonio Williams and Beaux Collins during his press conference on Tuesday.
Williams has missed the past four games with an injury, while Swinney revealed following Saturday’s win over North Carolina that Collins tore his plantar fascia against the Tar Heels.
Swinney was first asked about Beaux Collins.
“Sore. He was sore,” Swinney said. “Probably not [going to practice this week]. But we’ll see today. He was just really sore yesterday. He’s going to be fine, but just had a tendon or muscle or whatever that is rip in his foot, so he’s kind of tender.”
As for Williams, he is getting better, and it sounds as if there’s a chance he could play.
“He’s close. But he’s still in that day-to-day status for us,” Swinney said.
Antonio Williams has only appeared in four games this season. He has 17 catches for 192 yards and two scores, which ranks fourth on the team among receivers. Beaux Collins is third on the team and second out of receivers with 38 catches for 510 yards and three scores.
Clemson QB Cade Klubnik shares what teammates have told him about playing at South Carolina
Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik will be making his first appearance at South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium this weekend.
Klubnik would love to have Antonio Williams and Beaux Collins available for the game as he expects a tough environment in Columbia.

“Obviously it’s one of the best atmospheres in college football,” Cade Klubnik said. “It’s going to be a great atmosphere. They’ve got great fans. Excited to get down there. We love playing on the road, so it’s going to be a fun game, for sure, and a lot of energy and super cool.”
South Carolina is 5-1 at Williams-Brice Stadium this season, with the only loss being a 41-39 defeat at the hands of Florida in mid-October.
Over the past two seasons, the Gamecocks are 10-3 in Columbia. Clemson has played well there as of late, though, winning four straight at Williams-Brice.
“Just great energy,” Klubnik said. “They’ve got a very loyal fanbase. Just a high-energy type of stadium. It’ll be a super cool atmosphere from the very start.
“I think it’s fun to play games like that. I think that’s what makes college football college football. You kind of hear guys that have played college football go to the NFL and say that there’s games that were louder in college that aren’t as loud in the NFL. So I think it’s always super fun to play games on the road in college football. It’s definitely a game that we’re all looking forward to. It’s definitely a fun game in a great stadium.”
