Clemson lands 12 players on All-ACC Academic team

Clemson expects to be a perennial contender in the ACC. The Tigers have made six College Football Playoff appearances since the inception of the new postseason format.

But it all starts in the classroom for Clemson. The Tigers were delivered positive news of their work off the football field Tuesday, as 12 players were named to the All-ACC Academic team. The double-digit selections set a program record for the third-consecutive year.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career.

Matt Bockhorst, K.J. Henry, Walker Parks, B.T. Potter, Will Shipley, Trenton Simpson, James Skalski, Baylon Spector, Will Spiers, Will Swinney, Nolan Turner and DJ Uiagalelei were all named to the team.

Head coach of new Clemson commit Kylon Griffin breaks down his skill set

The Clemson Tigers have landed one of three remaining 2022 targets from the state of Alabama.

On Tuesday, they added Kylon Griffin to the fold following his successful official visit to the school. Griffin is the second player from Alabama — which also has Clemson defensive targets Caden Story and T.J. Dudley — to join this class, joining wide receiver Cole Turnerand Jackson Smith.

Prior to his commitment, Clemson Sports caught up with Kirk Johnson, Griffin’s head coach at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School.

Clemson coach unhappy with lack of free throws in close loss to Duke

Clemson came up just short of pulling off an upset Tuesday night at Duke. The Tigers fell 71-69 at Cameron Indoor Stadium, losing a back-and-forth game by a possession.

A big difference in the game was the free throw disparity as Duke attempted 13 free throws, compared to one by Clemson.

The only free throw attempted by a Clemson player came with 12:42 in the game when Alex Hemenway missed while attempting to complete a three-point play.

Clemson coach Brad Brownell was asked after the game if he was surprised by Clemson’s lack of free throw attempts, despite spending so much time playing in the paint. He made it clear that he was.

“Uh, yes,” Brownell responded. “And it’s happened here before, too.”

Five second-year Tigers who could have breakout seasons in 2022

Clemson relied on several freshmen this past season as Will Shipley, Beaux Collins and Andrew Mukuba all had big first years for the Tigers.

But there were other freshmen who didn’t see as much playing time who could be a big part of the team in 2022.

Clemson Sports broke down five second-year players who could have breakout seasons next year and help Clemson get back to the College Football Playoff.
