Fred Davis facing ‘lot of consequences’
The start of training camp was a lot different for Fred Davis on Thursday.
The Clemson defensive back turned himself into the Clemson Police Department on Sunday. Davis was booked for reckless driving on Sunday. The charge is in relation to his crash with a mail worker on Clemson’s campus about two weeks ago.
Tigers coach Dabo Swinney met with the media Thursday for the first time since Davis received a bond hearing and was released but now faces reckless driving charges.
“This is not of his character,” Dabo Swinney said. “I’m just incredibly disappointed in his decision making. It’s just that simple. A poor decision. He’s going to deal with lots of consequences for that.”
Swinney did not announce a suspension for Davis, and Davis practiced on Friday, but it remains to be seen if he will be suspended for the opener against Georgia or any other games.
“He’ll have consequences from this for a long, long, long time,” Swinney said. There’s consequences for our decisions. So it’s not something that is prolonged. He’s had immediate consequences from the moment that this happened. His team discipline has already started and will continue today.”

Expected Clemson, ACC testing requirements for season
The ACC is finalizing its COVID-19 testing guidelines for the 2021 college football season.
Unvaccinated players will be tested three times per week and vaccinated players tested once per week.
Vaccinated and unvaccinated players will only be required to test once a week if a team is at least 85% vaccinated. Clemson is close to that mark but is not quite there yet.
