Tré Williams ruled out for remainder of season

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney announced in his Sunday night press conference that defensive tackle Tré Williams has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. A redshirt freshman, the former On3 consensus four-star recruit has been key this season on a defensive line that has dealt with plenty of injuries.

Williams has been playing with a banged up shoulder and foot injury throughout the year, and he will have surgery on both.

“He will be done now for the season,” Swinney said. “It’s been a miracle that he has been able to play all year. … He’s had a couple of surgeries scheduled, but he really wanted to try to play as long as he could. He’s definitely done now with his foot.”

With a sack and 10 tackles, Williams helped keep together a line that lost Bryan Bresee in the opening weeks of the season. Tyler Davis missed a large chunk of the season, too. Williams will continue to be a part of one of the nation’s deepest defensive lines when he comes back.

But for now, he will be on the sidelines as Clemson continues to fight for its seventh-consecutive ACC title game appearance.

“What a great player he is going to be,” Swinney said. “I’m thankful he was able to get 11 games of experience in this year because he didn’t get any hardly last year.”
